New features in AGS 2.8

• A complete overhaul of the evaluations with well over 40 bug fixes, enhancements and refinements.

New features in AGS 2.7

Omega Classic in DOSBox is solely for performing evaluations, CSV exports, and GEDCOM transfers, as well as checking and converting files. Please use only the integrated AGS user interface for all other Omega functionalities, and especially for data entry.

The main innovations of AGS 2.7 compared to AGS 2.6 are:

New features in AGS 2.6

• Individual entries in the AGS Navigator can be highlighted in color, bold or italics to make them easier to find (#356).

• Numerous functions from Omega Classic have been incorporated into the integrated user interface , including saving directory contents as a CSV file , ancestor directory and top ancestor directory , expanding the person directory , keyboard macro editor, renaming surnames, first names, place names, and job titles in the name directories , and replacing signatures .
• A person can be added individually to a person directory from another person directory or from the index card , removed individually from a person directory, or moved to another person directory.

New features in AGS 2.1

• Omega now supports all Windows-supported encodings as well as ANSEL for reading and outputting files. The most important encodings are ANSI and Unicode (UTF-16 LE) for Windows, UTF-8 for web applications, and ANSEL for GEDCOM files. The data itself remains limited to the DOS character set (OEM437).
• Omega now fully supports long path names when reading and writing files. All restrictions to the DOS 8.3 file naming convention and the prohibition of special characters, umlauts, and diacritics in file names have been removed.
• There is a document viewer that supports the following media types : Text, RTF, HTML (including navigation), CSV (for displaying duplicate search results), logs, Gedcom, Omega-5 evaluations, Omega-5 diagrams.
• The document viewer has a print preview function.
• The document viewer can create PDF files.
• You first create an Omega-5 analysis. You can change the formatting (font, dimensions, margins, etc.) in the document viewer without having to regenerate the analysis. You also decide in the document viewer whether the output is generated as text, RTF, or HTML, and you can repeatedly save the same analysis in any of these formats without having to regenerate it. HTML analyses are navigable.
• The genealogical symbols for birth, baptism, marriage, death, and burial are output as special characters in Omega-5 analyses. There is no longer any need to use search and replace in RTF files.
• Family trees are now displayed graphically.
• The document manager allows for structured management of all documents generated in Omega (reports, logs, GEDCOM files, etc.) as well as other files that you add. The hierarchy is user-configurable.
• There is now a report assistant . The menu for selecting reports in Omega has been removed. Please work through the tutorial to familiarize yourself with how it works.
• There is now a Gedcom import wizard .

New features in AGS 2.0

• You can have AGS 1 and AGS 2 installed on the same computer and even run them simultaneously. However, you must never use the same file in DOSBox (open, check, etc.) in both versions at the same time.
• The workflow for creating reports has been redesigned. All reports you create are displayed in the AGS Navigator under "Documents" in the document manager .
• Right-click a document in the document manager to see all the options available for working with it. You can also reference your own documents by right-clicking on a document and selecting " Add Entry" in the document manager , for example, to quickly access a bibliography. Important: The document manager does not store documents; it only maintains references to them.
• Direct printing to the printer is no longer possible. Each report only appears in the print preview when selecting "Preview/Print" . From there, it can be printed or saved as a PDF file.
• There is no longer a setup assistant.
• The CSV export function from AGS Navigator is no longer available. Please install and use AGS 1.8.11 in parallel if you require this feature.
